Trekking the Volcanoes of the Kamchatka Peninsula

Hikers near steaming volcanic activity.Kamchatka is a unique corner of the Earth which has always attracted travelers and explorers. It is a far-away land of 160 menacing volcanoes (about 30 of which are active). It is a natural volcanic park with a territory of 180+ thousand square miles where you may see smoking calderas, hot geothermal springs, white snow peaks with clouds of smoke above the crater. It's fast transparent rivers are jumping with salmon, and are surrounded by huge Kamchatkan bears.

The natural environment of Kamchatka is unique and diverse. Its landscapes are breathtaking. This sparsely populated region is still a mysterious and magical land to the people of Asia. Many of Kamchatka's miracles, including the only Eurasia Geyser Valley, are out there to be explored by you on our trek. Welcome to the Land of the Fire and Ice.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1:

Meeting at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy Airport. Transfer to the
settlement of Paratunka where we will stay the night in a lodge.

Day 2:

Trekkers checking out volcanic cones.Transfer to Mutnovskiy Volcano and hike to the hot springs. We will camp at the foot of the Mutnovskiy Volcano.

Day 3:

Ascend to the crater of the Mutnovskiy Volcano.

Day 4:

Ascend the Gorelyy Volcano. Return to the lodge in Paratunka.

Day 5:

Helicopter flight to the Geyser Valley and hike around the valley. Helicopter flight to the Mil’kovo and transfer to the Tolbachik Volcano.

Day 6:

Continue our way to Ploskiy Tolbachik Volcano where we will camp at itsbase.

Day 7:

Ascend the Ploskiy Tolbachik where we will have a great view of the highest active volcano, the Klyuchevskaya Sopka from the summit.

Day 8:

Transfer to the northern site of the Great Tolbachik eruption and hike along the volcanic cones and dead forest.

Day 9:

Trek to the Southern eruption site.

Day 10:

Transfer to the Esso – national center of Kamchatka indigenous population – the Evens. We will spend the night at a lodge with hot springs.

Day 11:

Sightseeing in Esso. Departure to Petropavlovsk - Kamchatskiy where we will camp near hot springs.

Day 12:

Spend the night in a hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and visit a fish market.

Day 13:

Depart to the airport.

Notes:

Scheduled trip dates: August 18 - 30, 2005 and September 3 to 15, 2005.

We can run a Volcanoes of Kamchatka Trekking trip at any time of the season with a minimum of eight participants. If a specific trip date has fewer than eight participants the tour price may be increased.

Meals to and from the trip beginning and end are not included in the tour price.
